On the relation between the Deuteron Form Factor at High Momentum Transfer and the High Energy Neutron-Proton Scattering Amplitude

We use non-relativistic dynamics to relate the deuteron form factor at high momentum transfer to the high energy neutron-proton scattering amplitude. This relation implies that an accurate computation of the form factors at large Q2 requires a simultaneous description of the lowest phase-shifts of the nucleon-nucleon elastic scattering at laboratory kinetic energy T ∼ Q/2mN . Computing these phase shifts therefore provides a useful consistency test of the potentials used to compute the deuteron wave function.
